Stop Bullying: Speak Up | Pledge

Found a really great article on BlogHer today!

Bullying hurts our kids. It can have a lasting and damaging impact on their lives - sometimes more than we realize. Our goal is to raise awareness of the simple, yet powerful actions that parents, kids, and educators can take to prevent bullying. We hope to inspire millions of bystanders to take action by speaking up when they see bullying and to grow a community committed to ending bullying.

We know that the vast majorities of kid & teens are NOT engaged in bullying, but when it occurs, everyone has the power to stop bullying when they see it happen.
That’s why Facebook and Time Warner launched the Stop Bullying: Speak Up pledge. At its core, the Pledge is a public statement from parents, teachers, and students that they will take action when you see bullying occur. It’s aimed at inspiring the grand majority of people who witness bullying to come together as a community, take simple steps to help someone in need, and to create a culture that makes bullying – and the drama that leads to it – uncool.
More than 80,000 people throughout the country have taken the Pledge. Today, we ask you to join the movement. Here are a few simple actions that will go a long way:
  1. Take the pledge. Go to facebook.com/stopbullyingspeakup to take the Pledge. Then share it with all of your family and friends on Facebook.
  2. Post the pledge on your blog. Go to the Take Action Center and click on the Get the Widget link so that you can get the widget. Your readers will be able to take the pledge without ever leaving your page.
  3. Share your stories. We encourage you to write, blog, post your stories about how bullying has impacted you, your family, and your friends. We hope to feature some of your stories on the Stop Bullying: Speak Up wall in the coming weeks and months.
Do any of you have memories in school of bullying?

Eyeball Specimens {wink} {wink}

So as I've seen many creepy extremities
recreated in food
this season.

I gave eyeballs a go...

Not sure I nailed it?

And if I did... would you eat it?

If you would like to try, you need:
Hard-boiled Eggs
Food Dye
Mayo
Cupcake Liners
Toothpicks & thin bristled paintbrushes

Here is what I did...
Waited for the eggs to cool
Shelled them & patted dry
A dollop of mayo in each liner then
Cut the eggs in half and put one half in each liner
Use a toothpick or paintbrush for the {veins} of the eye
(Be sure to drop extra dye along the mayo too)
Use a paintbrush for the pupil

M & W were a little reluctant to try
because they were busy saying Eeewwwww!"
but Lil A
gobbled them right up!

If I do these for an upcoming Halloween party
we have been invited to I am going to water down
my food dye so I get a more cartoon[ish] color.

My Assertive Rights {and Yours too}

Each person comes with a set of rights and regulations. We all vary in patience, ideas, tolerance, love, anger, morals, beliefs, etc. We also have various degrees of behavior and how we handle other people, situations, issues, relationships and power struggles.

I was given a valuable technique for helping us find where we stand from passive to aggressive and I made an easy to understand chart. When you are passive {like a loyal teddy bear} you do not cause a stir or stand up for your issues but in doing that you cause an underlying volcano of emotions. When you are aggressive {like an angry snake} you tend to stand up too heavily for your issues and have a tendency to forget others have their own rights and issues.

When you are assertive {like a wise owl} you pay equal attention to what is right for you and what is right for the other person.

Within your assertive rights is a powerful belief system. It empowers you to take care of yourself while you remain respectful of other people taking care of themselves.

Here is a list of my {and your} Assertive Rights:

When we live by strive to maintain our own assertive rights and honor that of others we successfully create a relationship that is based on mutual understanding and respect.

DIY Fabric Freshener

Goooood Morning!!

Don't you LoVe the smell of fresh clean linens?? I do! I do! In the past have spent a fortune on fabric fresheners like GrabGreen, Lysol, Febreze, Mrs. Meyers, etc.

I saw a few recipes for making your own and decided to make a blend a'la ME!

I re-use my Febreze bottle but any spray bottle will do!

Recipe for 25-32 oz spray bottle
2 TBS Baking Soda
1/8 C Your Fave Fabric Softener (mine is Downy Clean Breeze)
2 drops of Tea Tree Oil [helps kill dust mites!]
Then fill your spray bottle with hot tap water

Voila!

{I've also used Downy Lavender Serenity in a separate bottle for nighttime!!}

Happy {Almost} Friday!

FIVE RULES TO REMEMBER IN LIFE
1. $Money$ cannot buy happiness but it's more comfortable to cry in a Mercedes than on a bicycle.
2. Forgive your enemy but remember the bastard's name.
3. Help someone when they are in trouble and they will remember YOU when they're in trouble {again}.
4. Certain people are alive ONLY because it's illegal to shoot them.
5. Alcohol does not solve any problems, but then again, neither does milk.
Hahahahaha!!
Happy {almost} Friday of Labor Day weekend for us means FOOOURRR DAYS and if I look off in the horizon I can see it just up ahead!!!!!
And at some point during this weekend please take time to think of or say thank you to the men and women in the military for their service and sacrifices they make throughout the year. Remember our Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines deployed around the world on Labor Day.
We should be so very proud of the hard-working global team and their families every day.
